Let\u2019s celebrate the Art of Maine Beer! Welcome to the fifth post in a multi-week series showcasing talented artists and their amazing can designs for Maine\u2019s world-class beers. Huge thanks to @evergreen_credit_union<\/a> for supporting this series and Maine Breweries!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our next artist is Elise Dilger (@lisedilg), the creative can designer of @Foulmouthedbrewing Grawlix IPA! The beer\u2019s comic-like can art is reminiscent of the light-hearted nature of the Foulmouthed Brewing Company logo. A \u201cgrawlix\u201d or the string of symbols written to represent a curse in comic books, was the perfect name and feature. Elise researched and sketched facial expressions to illustrate the mouths to look like they\u2019re cursing and expertly finalized details to make it look like it\u2019s straight out of a comic book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elise has a BFA in Graphic Design. After college, she dabbled in printmaking and illustration. As seen in some of her other can designs above, Foulmouthed\u2019s projects typically involve lettering and illustration. Her creative niche and artwork trends in hand lettering and calligraphy match Foulmouthed Brewing\u2019s style perfectly, and each can label challenges her to tell a new story. Involved with Foulmouthed Brewing from the beginning, Elise designed and painted the mural on the front of the building, created numerous bottle and poster designs, and then of course designed their two inaugural cans – Grawlix and Frobscottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of beer can labels, Elise actually works full-time in the events industry as a graphic designer for a luxury print studio. She also does freelance lettering work, chalkboards and murals, calligraphy for events, and a few personal commissions. Originally from New Jersey, Elise currently lives in Philadelphia. She of course has close ties to Maine through her family\u2019s brewery!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elise wants to shout out her older brother and Foulmouthed Brewing co-owner, Craig. An artist himself, Craig has designed many cans for the brewery and provides meaningful, collaborative art direction when needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
